The intravenous form of lorazepam is used to treat seizures.

Lorazepam is in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. It works by slowing activity in the brain.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved this medicine in 1977. It’s marketed under the brand name Ativan.
